| How do hypnosis and hypnotherapy differ? |
Hypnosis is often described as a meditative state in which a person can access his or her inner resources for powerful behavior changes. We all experience "trance" states throughout our day, for example, when engrossed in a movie, when we can't remember the last few miles we drove, or when daydreaming. This occurs when we are very inner-focused but, if need be - for example, if there's an accident in front of us - we can respond or react to the "outside" world. | Hypnotherapy incorporates hypnosis as a tool during the psychotherapeutic process, and is performed by a licensed counselor trained in hypnosis. Hypnosis usually addresses issues in one or two sessions and involves direct suggestions; hypnotherapy takes longer and can involve more insight oriented techniques.
